My previous MP3 player (a cheap one won by mum at some bridge meet or other) gave up the ghost, and we had some money left in the budget, so she got me a Creative ZEN. It has 2 GB of storage (and another 2 GB on a memory card I prudently procured), plays MP3s, OGGs, and other such formats.

It also plays videos - well, in *theory*. I've had to run the M4Vs from Homestar Runner through two separate converters before the player deigns to read them. Still, now I have Crazy Cartoon, Highschool and Geddup Noise to keep me company during the two-hour plane trip to England!

If one of those converters wasn't Handbrake, I recommend giving it a try. You just need to figure out the exact settings for your device (usually buried in its manual somewhere) and it'll convert any format to that format*.

* Assuming it's just an arcane format (every setting just so) rather than a proprietary format that's just a wrapper around standard MPEG.
